While many of you are barbequing, attending parades, or floating down rivers. I get to stand close as two of my great friends commit to each other for life. Jon is my husbands best friend since highschool, they are our next door neighbors, and basically partners in life. We both had the honor of being a part of their engagement story 2 years ago, and today we watch them say their vows before God on a little island out in the ocean. Honor is an understatement.

Two years ago, Casey and I had just moved to Los Angeles, right down the hall from his best friend and partner in crime. And they pretty quickly started scheming this plan for Jon to propose to Hannah. On a sunny day in May I asked Hannah if I could borrow her for the day for a test shoot on the beach. We drove out to Zuma Beach out in Malibu, to a cliff that they used to fly kites at. Jon and Casey were there waiting, Casey had learned their song on the guitar and was playing it, and Jon had tied her engagement ring to the string of a kite that was flying above the cliff… YES you heard me right. HE TIED THE RING ON A KITE ABOVE A CLIFF! Wow. And their song that Casey learned? Ribbons in the Sky by Stevie Wonder So much could have gone wrong (like a seagull almost eating the ring, or the kite dive bombing off the cliff 5 minutes before we arrived) but everything went wonderfully right. Hannah had no idea why her love was waiting at her modeling gig or why she was being instructed to pull in a kite in the sky only to turn and find her future groom on one knee. And a photographer poised at the ready to capture every moment. Bliss.

We’ve been anticipating today for 2 years now. As you’re reading this we are in the midst of celebrating the love of our two great friends – my camera will be on them again all day, and Casey will have his guitar to serenade the proceedings. And I’m once again reminded of how much I love Love, and the terrifying and invigorating act of committing to a life of love with one another. Happy Wedding Day to Jon and Hannah
